University of Indianapolis senior Alex Cushman and sophomore Kieran Casey have been named the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Runners of the Week for the 2015 men's and women's cross country season, it was announced by the Conference office on Wednesday.
In addition to his GLVC accolade, Cushman was honored Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the NCAA Division II Men's National Athlete of the Week.
In his first cross country race back after redshirting last year, Cushman covered the 6,000 meters on a rolling course at the Cincinnati Queen City Invitational with a winning time of 18 minutes, 13.2 seconds. He led the Greyhounds to a third-place finish in the 12-team field featuring Division I schools from around the Ohio Valley area.
A two-time All-GLVC selection from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Cushman earns his second career weekly accolade as he was first honored on Oct. 22, 2013, which also coincided with his first national honor. That feat marked the first time a Greyhound had ever garnered a GLVC or USTFCCCA weekly award.
