Bellarmine University junior forward Mary Beth Gorham and Quincy University sophomore Megan Swanson have garnered the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors for the 2015 women's soccer season, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Gorham was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Swanson was named Defensive Player of the Week.
In Bellarmine's first two matches of the regular season, both on the road, Gorham scored the game-winning goals in each. Overall, the junior recorded three goals and one assist. In the team's season-opening 3-0 win against Lake Erie on Friday, the forward got the Knights going in a hurry by scoring in the third minute. She then assisted on the team's third goal. On Sunday at Ursuline, the preseason favorite to win the G-MAC, Gorham again struck early with a goal in the eighth minute. The forward would put away the match late with another score in the 86th minute, as she netted goals on her lone two shots for the 2-0 win. She earns her third career weekly honor and is the first BU offensive selection to be honored by the league since Emily Hollander October 13, 2014.
