Bellarmine University junior forward Mary Beth Gorham and Quincy University sophomore Megan Swanson have garnered the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors for the 2015 women's soccer season, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Gorham was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Swanson was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Swanson was outstanding in net for the Hawks, posting a pair of clean sheets, including a 13-save performance in a 3-0 win against No. 1 Grand Valley State on Friday. She finished the week with 15 saves, playing all 180 minutes in goal. On Friday, Swanson was tested early and often, making seven saves in the first half as QU took a 2-0 lead into halftime against the Lakers. She stopped six more shots in the second half to preserve the shutout and give Quincy its first-ever win over Grand Valley in 13 meetings. On Sunday, Swanson kept a second clean sheet by making two saves as Quincy ousted Ferris State 3-0. The sophomore is Quincy's first defensive selection by the league since she was chosen as a freshman September 29, 2014, which gives her two weekly career honors.
