University of Illinois Springfield junior forward Zachary Allevi and sophomore goalkeeper Tommy Geile have garnered the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors for the 2015 men's soccer season, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Allevi was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Geile was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Allevi made a big impact in his first weekend of action at UIS, recording five shots, scoring a pair of goals and assisting on another in the Prairie Stars' 3-0 and 2-1 wins against South Dakota School of Mines and the University of Mary (ND), respectively. On Friday against SOM, the junior transfer opened the scoring in the 56th minute, paving the way for two more goals en route to a decisive 3-0 victory. On Sunday against Mary, the forward again put UIS on the board first with a goal in the 24th minute. In overtime, he found junior Dylan Stockman in the box for the game-winning goal, his first assist at UIS. Including preseason, Allevi has scored in four out of five matches. He earns his first career weekly honor and is the first Prairie Star ever to be selected for the league's weekly honor.
