University of Illinois Springfield junior forward Zachary Allevi and sophomore goalkeeper Tommy Geile have garnered the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors for the 2015 men's soccer season, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Allevi was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Geile was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Geile played in 191 minutes over the weekend and let in just one goal while making 15 saves. On Friday against SOM, the keeper stopped seven shots en route to his first career shutout. On Sunday he was brilliant again with eight saves and kept the Prairie Stars alive even though they played a man down from the 25th minute on. The sophomore's seven saves on Friday were a career-high, which he broke on Sunday with eight saves. This is the first career weekly honor for Geile while UIS' first-ever selection.
