University of Southern Indiana senior middle blocker Abbey Winter and Missouri S&T senior Jackie Pyles have garnered the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors for the 2015 volleyball season, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Winter was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Pyles was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Winter averaged a tournament-best 3.64 kills and 1.36 blocks per set to lead the Screaming Eagles to a 3-1 record and a second-place finish in the Dunn Hospitality Invitational over the weekend. She also led all players with a .479 attacking percentage and 4.64 points per set. The middle blocker opened the weekend with 15 kills, a .636 attacking percentage, and three blocks in USI's three-set win over Midwest Region foe Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday. She had 13 kills, a .565 attacking percentage, and four blocks in USI's three-set win over Midwest Region foe Northwood University Friday night. An All-Tournament team selection, the 6-2 senior shined in USI's only setback of the weekend, a four-set loss to No. 6 Wayne State College Saturday afternoon. She hammered down 12 kills, posted a .500 attacking percentage, and had eight blocks in what was the title match of the Dunn Hospitality Invitational.
This is Winter's third individual nod for the award and the first USI offensive league recognition since Winter was selected October 13, 2014.
