University of Indianapolis junior middle blocker Becca Lira and freshman libero Bri Heffernan have earned Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors in the sport of volleyball, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Lira was named Baden/GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Heffernan was tabbed Baden/Defensive Player of the Week.
Lira was the offensive force behind the Greyhounds' two 3-0 victories this past week, as UIndy began GLVC action with wins over Maryville (25-18, 25-23, 25-21) and Missouri-St. Louis (25-19, 25-19, 25-22). The junior totaled 31 kills - averaging 5.17 per set - and hit a blistering .419 for the week (31 kills, 62 attempts, 5 errors). She added 19 digs (3.17/set), six block assists and a pair of service aces to her stat line. In Friday's win over the Saints, the middle blocker led the team with 11 kills, hitting .308 and finishing with nine digs and six block assists. Lira followed Saturday with a stellar 20-kill, 10-dig double-double while hitting an even .500, and added a pair of block assists. She came one kill shy of the program's three-set match record of 21.
