University of Indianapolis junior middle blocker Becca Lira and freshman libero Bri Heffernan have earned Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors in the sport of volleyball, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Lira was named Baden/GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Heffernan was tabbed Baden/Defensive Player of the Week.
Heffernan racked up 37 digs in UIndy's pair of victories this past week. She averaged a lofty 6.17 digs per set and recorded a .974 receiving percentage. The freshman first tallied a team-high 15 digs in a 3-0 win over Maryville and had a perfect 1.000 receiving percentage on 21 tries. She helped the Hounds record their best opponent attacking mark of the season, as the Saints managed to hit just .128. The libero again led the squad with 22 digs on Saturday versus Missouri-St Louis – her sixth match with 15 or more digs this season. Heffernan also had just one error in 17 reception attempts (.941).
The New Castle, Ind., product earns her first career weekly honor and is the first defensive Hound to be honored since Kimberly Trojan was selected October 13, 2014.
