McKendree University sophomore forward Chelsea Whittaker and Bellarmine University senior defender Jordan Major have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in the sport of women's soccer, it was announced by the league office Monday.

Whittaker was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Major was named Defensive Player of the Week.

In addition to anchoring two more shutouts over the weekend for the Bellarmine squad that has allowed a single goal all season, Major tallied the game-winning goal in Sunday's 2-0 victory over Missouri S&T. The center back sank a free kick from long range in the third minute that got the 15th-ranked Knights off and running toward their seventh straight victory. With the senior leading the way, the Miners didn't record a single shot in the first half and only collected two for the game, with none on goal. The shutout marked the sixth in seven matches for Bellarmine's defense, while the fifth blanking of an opposing team came in Friday's 1-0 win over Drury. Major spearheaded a defensive effort that yielded a single shot on goal by the Panthers and only eight overall. Behind her, the Knights surrendered one shot on goal the entire weekend.

The Prospect, Ky., product is BU's first ever defensive selection, which also makes this nod a career first.
