Bellarmine University sophomore Chris Striegel has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week in men's cross country, it was announced by the Conference office on Tuesday.

Striegel finished runner-up in a field of 274 runners at Notre Dame's National Catholic Invitational on Saturday, with an 8,000-meter time of 25 minutes, 00.2 seconds.  Racing against a heavily loaded Division I field, Striegel topped all College Division participants and was second only to Canisius' Chad Maloy (24:49.8).  His efforts helped Bellarmine place second overall in the 23-team College Division with 76 points.

The Prospect, Kentucky native earns his first career weekly honor and is the first Knight to be recognized by the league since Robert Sandlin, Jr., on Sept. 24, 2013, after he finished second at the National Catholic Invitational in 24:58.8.
