Missouri S&T junior Eduardo Abichabki and Maryville University freshman Christian Kjaersgaard have garnered Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors in the sport of men's soccer, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Abichabki was named GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Kjaersgaard was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
Kjaersgaard posted back-to-back shutout victories as the Saints recorded two 1-0 overtime road wins. Friday at Lewis, he made one save and did not allow a goal over the 97:13 minutes when the Saints scored the game-winner. At UW-Parkside Sunday, the goalkeeper came up with three saves and blanked the Rangers for 93:31 before Maryville netted the winner. The victories were the first ever wins for the Saints over both Lewis and Parkside. In 190:44 minutes last week, the freshman faced 22 shots, recorded four saves and did not allow a goal. This was also the first time in program history the Saints won two straight overtime games. The last time Maryville posted back-to-back road victories was Oct. 6 and Oct. 13, 2007, at Greenville and Eureka.
This is the Vaxjo, Sweden, product's first career weekly selection and also the first ever weekly award for any Maryville player.
