Maryville University senior Anthony Allen has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week in men’s cross country, it was announced by the Conference office on Tuesday.
At Friday’s Augustana Brissman/Lundeen Cross Country Open in Rock Island, Illinois, Allen finished 11th overall with an 8,000-meter time of 25 minutes, 5.1 seconds. Three of the runners ahead of him were Division I athletes. Allen’s time marked the second-fastest result in school history at the distance. Maryville garnered a ninth-place finish out of 50 teams in a field featuring 602 finishers.
The Newbury Park, California, native is the first-ever Maryville men’s runner to be recognized by the Conference with a weekly award.
