Saint Joseph’s College’s Rachel Cobean (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. The junior forward guided the Pumas to three wins last week including a pair of league victories over the weekend.
In Saint Joseph’s 3-0 win over in-region foe Oakland City on Wednesday, Cobean posted the game-winning goal just 24 seconds into the contest.
She returned on Friday to record her first collegiate hat trick in the Pumas’ 3-1 win over visiting Bellarmine. Cobean scored her first goal of the match in the 16th minute to knot the score at 1-1 and then added two more goals in the second half to provide the difference for the Pumas.
Cobean completed the week by scoring the game-winning goal in Saint Joseph’s 1-0 upset win over visiting 24th-ranked Northern Kentucky on Sunday. Her goal came with just 17 seconds to play in the contest.
For the week, Cobean posted five goals, including all three game-winning goals. She now has a team-high nine goals on the season.
Saint Joseph’s (8-5-2, 5-2-2) has surged into the GLVC race and currently sits tied for fourth in the league standings. The Pumas will return to action at Missouri-St. Louis and Missouri-Rolla this weekend.
