University of Missouri-St. Louis junior forward Miriam Taylor and Rockhurst University senior goalkeeper Caitlin Winschel have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in the sport of women's soccer, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Taylor was selected GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Winschel was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
After not seeing any minutes in Rockhurst's game on Friday, Winschel came up big against No. 3 Quincy on Sunday, earning a 1-0 shutout win that handed the Illinois Hawks their first loss of the season. The senior made four saves in posting her second shutout of the season, including a stop on a header in the 78th minute to preserve the victory.
The St. Louis, Mo., product earns her first career weekly honor and is Rockhurst's first defensive selection since Ali Wallner was chosen on September 30, 2013.
