University of Indianapolis senior quarterback Connor Barthel and redshirt sophomore kicker Brad Schickel, along with William Jewell College freshman defensive back Justice Taylor, have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in football, it was announced by the league office Monday.

Barthel was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, Taylor was picked Defensive Player of the Week, while Schickel was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Barthel guided an efficient offensive attack to UIndy's biggest win of the season – a 34-24 road win at fellow league leader McKendree last Saturday.  The Indianapolis, Indiana native finished 27-for-36 (.750) for 246 passing yards and two touchdowns.  The Greyhounds' longest drive came on a 13-play, 75-yard march on the opening possession of the second half. The series, which broke a 17-17 tie, ended with a 17-yard scoring strike from Barthel to freshman Nate Deno.  Earlier in the drive, Barthel used his legs to pick up a key first down, scampering 13 yards on a 3rd & 10 situation to extend the possession.  Later, Barthel engineered an 11-play, 53-yard drive that ended with a game-winning 36-yard field goal with just two minutes remaining.  Barthel earns his second career weekly award having first been honored on Oct. 21, 2013.  He is the first UIndy offensive standout to be recognized by the league since Reece Horn earned the season's first award on Sept. 7, 2015.
