Rockhurst University junior forward Mitch Moncada and Maryville University freshman goalkeeper Christian Kjaersgaard have earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors in the sport of men's soccer, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Moncada was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Kjaersgaard was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Kjaersgaard recorded back-to-back shutouts as the Saints went 1-0-1 in two road games. At Illinois Springfield, he faced 10 shots and made two saves as the Saints and Prairie Stars battled to a double-overtime scoreless draw. In Lebanon, the freshman faced a barrage of 28 shots and made 11 saves, including one on a penalty kick, as Maryville defeated McKendree 3-0. Over 200 minutes of action in net, he faced a total of 38 shots, recorded 13 saves and did not allow a goal. With the two clean sheets, Kjaersgaard broke the program record for shutouts in a season with six. His efforts have also helped the Saints record six wins this season, the most since joining the GLVC.
This is the Vaxjo, Sweden, product's second career weekly nod and the second of this season, having been first chosen September 28.
