Lewis University’s Nestor Hernandez (Berwyn, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The sophomore forward was a key force in the Flyers’ victories over visiting Drury and Rockhurst last week.
In Lewis’ 2-1 win over Drury on Friday, Hernandez posted the game-winning goal in the 26th minute. He generated four shots in the victory including two shots on goal.
Hernandez returned in the Flyers’ 3-2 win over Rockhurst on Sunday to post his second goal of the week. He helped ignite Lewis’ come-from-behind effort in the contest by scoring the game-tying goal in the 52nd minute.
He has now posted five goals in the past five matches and is second on the team with eight goals this season. Hernandez also has three assists to place him second on the team with 19 points.
Lewis (12-4) ran its season-best winning streak to five matches with the two victories and is now positioned in third place in the GLVC standings at 8-4. The Flyers will host UW-Parkside on Thursday in their last regular season conference match of the year, before finishing the regular season at Truman on Sunday.
