University of Southern Indiana sophomore outside hitter Shelbi Morris and McKendree University sophomore outside hitter Arela Williams have earned Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors in the sport of volleyball, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Morris was named Baden/GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, while Williams was selected Baden/Defensive Player of the Week.
Morris averaged 3.71 kills and 3.29 digs per set to lead the Screaming Eagles to a pair of league wins this weekend. She began the week with the first of two double-doubles Friday night, notching 10 kills, 12 digs, a .308 attacking percentage, and two blocks as USI defeated the Greyhounds for the first time since 2011. She returned to the court Saturday to rack up a match-high 16 kills in USI's four-set win over Saint Joseph's. The sophomore added 11 digs, two blocks, and a .394 attacking percentage as the Eagles won for the first time this season when dropping the opening frame. For the week, Morris finished with 26 kills, 23 digs, and a .356 attacking percentage. She also finished with 4.21 points and 0.57 blocks as USI improved to 16-7 overall and 6-5 in GLVC play.
This is the Brazil, Ind., native's first career weekly honor and second offensive Eagle selected this season as Abbey Winter was the first 2015 honoree chosen September 7.
