University of Indianapolis sophomore running back Andrew Walker and senior wide receiver and return specialist Reece Horn, along with Saint Joseph's College senior linebacker Joel Wimbley, have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in football, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Walker was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, Wimbley was picked Defensive Player of the Week, while Horn was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Walker turned in an impressive performance in UIndy's 41-18 road win at Lincoln on Saturday. He compiled 129 rushing yards and a career-high four touchdowns versus the Blue Tigers. The Chicago, Illinois native carried the ball 24 times while averaging 5.4 yards per and helping the Greyhounds dominate the time-of-possession battle (34:37). He scored a pair of second-quarter touchdowns – each from six yards out – including one on a 4th-&-1 call late in the half. He also scored twice in the third, once from one yard, and again finally from 12 yards. Walker came one rushing touchdown shy of tying the single-game school record. He is the first Greyhound to amass four TDs on the ground since two-time GLVC Offensive Player of the Year Klay Fiechter on Sept. 29, 2012 versus Missouri S&T. He has scored at least one TD in every game this season and ranks second in the conference in rushing touchdowns on the season (12). This is Walker's first career honor and he is the first Hound to earn the league's offensive accolade since Connor Barthel was recognized on Oct. 12, 2015.
