University of Indianapolis senior wide receiver Reece Horn, McKendree University sophomore linebacker Carter Vance, and Southwest Baptist University junior defensive end Vice Epenesa have been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in football, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Horn was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, Epenesa was picked Defensive Player of the Week, while Vance was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Vance, who has been a solid special teams performer in his two years at McKendree, had a vital role in the Bearcats' 65-0 win at home on Saturday over Lincoln. The Secor, Illinois native recorded both of his tackles on the day while on special teams, and blocked a Lincoln punt early in the third quarter, which was recovered and returned 15 yards for a touchdown. It is the second blocked punt in Vance's career, with the first coming last year against Saint Joseph's. It was also the Bearcats' first blocked punt that resulted in a touchdown since 2010. In addition, Vance recovered a Blue Tigers' fumble following a kickoff in the fourth quarter. This is the first career honor for Vance and the first for a McKendree special teams standout since Steven O'Block on Sept. 28, 2015.
