The Great Lakes Valley Conference has named McKendree University sophomore Keenai Sampson its GLVC Men's Golf Player of the Month for October, it was announced Tuesday. Sampson earned the honor following a vote from the league's men's golf coaches.
The Maryville, Ill., native played in four rounds over the course of two tournaments last month and averaged 72.0 strokes.
Sampson bested the 120-player field at the Midwest Regional #2 tournament, carding scores of 68-74=142 for medalist honors. McKendree finished in a tie for seventh out of 24 teams with a 620 (299-321) at the Fox Run Golf Course in Eureka, Missouri. After tying for second overall, one stroke behind the medalist, at the Dan Salisbury Memorial with a 36-hole score of 146 (73-73), Sampson was awarded All-Tournament recognition. His performance led the Bearcats to a third-place team finish (299-308=607) in the 11-team field at the Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Illinois.
This monthly honor is the first career selection for Sampson, and he becomes the first Bearcat to ever be selected.
