Missouri S&T sophomore quarterback Tyler Swart and junior wide receiver Spencer Elrod, along with McKendree University junior linebacker A.J. Wentland, have earned the final Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors of the 2015 football season, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Swart was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, Wentland was picked Defensive Player of the Week, while Elrod was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Elrod finished the Miners’ 42-35 win over Quincy with 212 all-purpose yards, which included three kickoff returns for 105 yards. With the game tied at 14 in the final minute of the first half, Elrod had a 58-yard kickoff return that set up the Miners’ go-ahead score before halftime. Initially Elrod provided that score as he returned the kick for a touchdown, but it was called back due to a penalty. He added six receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown in the game. The Lancastser, California native earns his second weekly honor for special teams as he was first recognized on Sept. 15, 2014. He is the first Miner special teams standout honored by the league since Dillon Bowman on Oct. 6, 2014.
