Missouri S&T sophomore quarterback Tyler Swart and junior wide receiver Spencer Elrod, along with McKendree University junior linebacker A.J. Wentland, have earned the final Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors of the 2015 football season, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Swart was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, Wentland was picked Defensive Player of the Week, while Elrod was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Swart, making his first career start for the Miners, completed 20-of-33 passes for 248 yards and four touchdowns, while also running for a score in Missouri S&T’s 42-35 win over Quincy last Saturday. He threw two touchdown passes in the first half before scoring on a quarterback sneak with one second to play in the first half to give the Miners a 21-14 lead; S&T would not trail again in the contest. Prior to the touchdown run, he completed a pair of passes to get the Miners to the one-yard line in the final minute of the half. Swart added two more scoring passes in the second half of the contest as the Miners finished in sole possession of third place in the GLVC for the season. The Dickinson, Texas native earns his first career award and is the first Miner to earn offensive accolades from the GLVC since Lamar Wilkes on Sept. 29, 2014.
