Indianapolis, Ind. – The University of Indianapolis’ Brian Fishback (Springfield, Mo./Parkview) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference men’s soccer Player of the Week. The sophomore forward posted three goals in the Greyhounds’ two wins over the weekend.
In UIndy’s 3-1 win over Ashland University on Aug. 25, Fishback took two shots and tallied one goal. His score was the first of the contest in the 20th minute. He connected from eight yards out helping the Greyhounds jump out to an early lead over the defending Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion.
Fishback also played a significant role in UIndy’s 3-1 win over visiting Gannon University on Aug. 27. He finished the contest with four shots and he connected on two of his attempts. His first goal against the Golden Knights came in the first minute of the contest off a free kick assist from junior John Higgins (Dumfermline, UK). After again enabling the Greyhounds to gain an early advantage, he added an insurance goal for UIndy in the 82nd minute to halt Gannon’s second half run.
He finished the weekend with three goals and six points. Fishback took six shots in the two contests and has a shot percentage of .500.
UIndy is 2-0-0 on the season and will meet Upper Iowa on Aug. 30 before entering league-play at Northern Kentucky on Sept. 1.
