University of Southern Indiana senior distance runner Johnnie Guy and Lewis University senior multi-event specialist Dan Lentz have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday.

In addition to his GLVC accolade, Guy was honored earlier in the day by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the NCAA Division II Men's National Track Athlete of the Week.

Guy posted the nation's fastest time in the 3,000 meters when he finished sixth in the event at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana this past weekend. His time of eight minutes, 5.22 seconds was the seventh-fastest time in Division II history and broke the school record, which was set by Michael Jordan in 2013, by nearly three seconds.  Guy's effort was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark and was less than a second off the automatic qualifying standard of 8:04.70.

This is the second consecutive honor and fifth career weekly award for the Palmyra, Indiana native.  Prior to being recognized last week, Guy had earned league accolades on Feb. 6, 2013, and Jan. 22 and Feb. 5, 2015.  This is the third time in Guy's career he has been honored by the USTFCCCA with a national weekly award and the first time in his track career. He was the USTFCCCA Division II Cross Country Runner of the Week in 2013 and 2015.
