Bellarmine University junior forward Sarah Galvin has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in women’s basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Galvin averaged 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two GLVC victories last week. In those games, she also combined for a 64.7% (20-of-27) shooting clip and was 14-of-20 (.700) from the foul line while recording a 6.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
On Thursday, in the second-place Knights’ critical GLVC East contest with third-place Saint Joseph’s, Galvin piled up game highs of 24 points and seven rebounds. She was nearly perfect from the floor, shooting 7-of-8 (.875) and was 10-of-12 (.833) from the free throw line. The junior dished out four assists against one turnover and blocked one shot in a decisive 85-65 victory. It was the eighth game this season in which she broke 20 points.
On Saturday, Galvin hauled in a game-high nine rebounds and registered a team-best 14 points while distributing two assists against no turnovers in a convincing 70-50 win over Indianapolis. She was also 2-of-3 (.667) from behind the arc.
The Hendersonville, Tenn., native claims her first career weekly honor and is the first Knight selected since Darion Hutchinson was chosen Nov. 25, 2013.
