The University of Southern Indiana’s Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Baines, a senior forward for the Eagles, guided her team to a pair of wins last week helping USI start the season 3-0.
                                  
In USI’s 92-65 win over Central Missouri on Tuesday, Baines posted 25 points, nine rebounds and a career-high five blocked shots. She was 9-for-12 (.750) from the field and converted 7-of-9 free throw attempts. She also added two assists and a steal in the win.
 
Baines returned against the University of Cumberlands on Saturday to score 23 points and grab six rebounds. She helped the Eagles top Cumberlands, 84-72, by posting 16 second-half points. The effort allowed USI to pull away following a one-point halftime lead. She was 9-for-18 (.500) from the field and had two blocks, two steals and an assist.
 
For the week, Baines averaged 24 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. She shot 60 percent from the field and was 12-for-16 (.750) from the free throw line.

Baines is averaging 23.3 points, seven rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game on the year to lead the Eagles in each category.
 
USI (3-0) will return to action at Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday in the conference opener for both teams.
 
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Missouri-Rolla’s Katie McElrath, Northern Kentucky’s Angela Healy, Quincy’s Jessica Keller, Rockhurst’s Julie Cook, SIU Edwardsville’s Amber Shelton and UIndy’s Karla Mast.
