University of Indianapolis senior Luke Hubert has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of men's tennis, the Conference announced Tuesday.
Hubert went 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles last week against Division I competition, defeating Butler's Ari Gerstein in straight sets (6-3, 7-6) before dropping IUPUI's Akshay Verma in three (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) as UIndy won both matches. Hubert – who is ranked No. 49 in Division II singles – has only lost three times during the 2015-16 season: twice to teammate Arklon Huertas del Pino (including in the ITA Midwest Regional Final) and once to Tennessee's Jess Jones (Sep. 25) at the Purdue Invitational.
The Greyhounds beat Butler 4-3 and topped IUPUI 5-2 on the road, as both matches used Division I scoring.
This is the New Berlin, Wis., native's third career weekly honor as he was chosen twice in 2014, first on March 25 and then again on April 15. The latter selection was the last time a Hound was recognized.
