University of Missouri-St. Louis freshman Salome Bleuler has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of women's tennis, the Conference announced Tuesday.
Bleuler went 2-0 in her matches on Saturday to help UMSL upset No. 45 ranked Newman in the Tritons' spring opener. The freshman teamed with Patricia Maya to win at No. 1 doubles (8-6) against Venessa Brill and Ariana Raga. She then posted a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-4 over Kateryna Stoianova. UMSL earned the team upset with a 7-2 score.
This is the Zurich, Switzerland, native's first career weekly honor and becomes the first Triton selected since Leanne Cantalupo was chosen March 13, 2015.
