Bellarmine University senior forward Jake Thelen has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in men's basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.
In the last game of the regular season, Thelen finished strong, setting a career-high mark for points scored with 33 on 12-of-17 shooting in the Knights' 67-54 home victory over Southern Indiana last Thursday. He also added an impressive 14 rebounds for the double-double, 11 of which came on the defensive end. His season totals place him first in the league with 10.7 rebounds per game.
The 6-7 forward's efforts helped the team to a school record for most regular season wins at 25, which also extended the Knights' win streak to 13. Additionally, Bellarmine secured the No. 1 seed and automatic trip to St. Charles, Missouri, for the GLVC Championship Tournament. Thelen also went a near-perfect 9-of-10 from the foul line and grabbed two steals and one block in 36 minutes on the floor.
This is the Edgewood, Kentucky, native's third career weekly selection, all of which have come this season,with the last one on Dec. 15.
