Lewis University junior mid-distance specialist Sergio Miranda and Saint Joseph's College sophomore jumper Phil Thompson have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Wednesday. 

At the GVSU Big Meet this past Saturday, Thompson finished second in the long jump with a leap of 7.20 meters (23'-7.5"), which currently places him 18th in Division II.  He then came back to win the triple jump with an effort of 14.99 meters (49'-2.25").  That mark broke his own school record and ranks him eighth nationally.  On Friday during the Invite section of the GVSU Big Meet triple jump, he finished second with a jump of 14.87 meters (48'-9.5").

The Dolton, Illinois native earns his second career award as he was recognized earlier this year on Jan. 20.
