Lewis University junior mid-distance specialist Sergio Miranda and Saint Joseph's College sophomore jumper Phil Thompson have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Wednesday. 

Miranda opened this past weekend at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday by winning his 800-meter heat in one minute, 54.05 seconds.  He returned on Saturday at the Chicagoland Championships to improve on that effort with a winning time of 1:52.74, which converts to 1:51.15 and is ranked tops in the GLVC and 11th nationally.  He then ran the third leg on the winning 4x400-meter team that ran an NCAA provisional time of 3:19.02, converting to 3:15.92 – the 16th-best time in the country.
