University of Indianapolis senior outfielder Erika Goodwin and Bellarmine University senior pitcher Ally Foster were named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, in the sport of softball, the Conference office announced Monday.
Goodwin went a combined 8-for-12 during Indianapolis' season-opening weekend, scoring six runs while driving in five. She totaled four extra-base hits, as well, and recorded a 1.000 slugging percentage and .692 on-base percentage.
In the season-opener at Montevallo, the senior went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI and a pair of doubles, helping UIndy win 9-1. In the top of the fifth, with the Hounds up 4-1, Goodwin broke open the game with a bases-clearing double. She followed with a 3-for-3 performance against Montevallo in the second half of Friday's doubleheader, which UIndy won 12-2. Goodwin scored twice, drove in two more and finished with a stolen base and a double in the win.
In UIndy's 6-1 win Saturday against West Georgia, Goodwin went 1-for-4 with a run scored and one double. She crossed the plate with the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third, resulting in the eventual game-winning run.
The Indianapolis, Indiana native earns her first career weekly selection and is the first Greyhound chosen since Casey Williamson earned 2015's final honor of the season on April 28.
