Quincy University senior guard Maggie Cunningham has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.
In the 2016 regular-season finale Thursday, a 65-53 win over Truman State, Cunningham scored 23 points, pulled in six rebounds, gathered three steals and dished out two assists in 33 minutes. She shot 41.7% (8-for-17) from the field and was perfect at the foul line (5-for-5).
With the victory, Quincy clinched the final GLVC Basketball Championship Tournament first-round bye as the No. 4 seed. The senior stepped up on Senior Day to lead the Hawks to victory and an automatic trip to St. Charles, Missouri. She took the game over in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 points in the final period, including scoring back-to-back layups and drawing a foul before converting the three-point play after TSU had pulled within four points.
This is the Peoria, Ill., native's first career weekly honor and the second time a Hawk has been selected this season, as Kara Gerbus was the selection on January 18.
