Quincy University senior right fielder Ryan Snyder and University of Indianapolis junior pitcher Jake Shaw have been respectively named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Monday.
Behind the efforts of Snyder, No. 9 Quincy earned three wins to open the season in Nashville, Tennessee, this past weekend. He hit 7-for-13 (.538) over the weekend with four doubles and two home runs on seven hits. The senior drove in 14 RBI and scored four runs in just three games. In the Hawks' 12-1 win over host Trevecca Nazarene. Snyder went 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBI with a run scored. The next day in a 9-8 comeback win against Wayne State, Snyder was 2-for-4 with six RBI, which included a three-run home run to left field to tie the game in the seventh inning. The St. Louis, Missouri native finished the weekend 3-for-6 with another double and home run to go with three RBI and two runs scored in a 15-4 win over Walsh. Snyder recorded multiple hits in all three games swiped a stolen base.
This is his first PNC GLVC Player of the Week award. It is Quincy's first honor since Kory Wisdom was selected last season on Apr. 28, 2015.
