Lewis University sophomore outfielder Jenna Cairo and senior pitcher Hannah Perryman were named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, in the sport of softball, the Conference office announced Monday.
Perryman went 4-0 last week for UMSL, which posted a 5-0 record. She posted a 0.26 ERA, surrendering just one run in 27 innings pitched, while striking out 45. Beginning the week with a two-hit shutout, she struck out 13 in a 7-0 win over Saint Anselm Monday. On Tuesday, she tossed another complete game shutout, striking out eight, in a 1-0 win over Wheeling Jesuit.
On Wednesday, the southpaw was 2-0 in the circle, and in the first game against regional foe Findlay, recorded her 13th career no-hitter, giving her sole possession of fourth place on the NCAA DII career charts list. She struck out eight in that contest. The shutout was also the 47th of her career, which ties for 24th on the NCAA DII career charts. Perryman wrapped up the week with 16 strikeouts in a three-hit complete game victory over Point Park.
On the week, opponents batted just .101 against Perryman, and also collected her 1300th career strikeout, now with 1,306, which is sixth on the NCAA DII career charts.
This is the Streamwood, Ill., native's 14th career weekly honor, having earned the season's first honor February 15.
