University of Missouri-St. Louis senior Renee Verboven has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of women's tennis, the Conference announced Tuesday.
Verboven went 6-0 last week with three No. 4 singles wins and as many wins at No. 3 doubles. The Tritons went 2-1 in three days last week, sweeping Brevard first on Wednesday 9-0 before falling 5-4 to Tiffin the next day. UMSL bounced back against Michigan Tech on Friday, earning another 9-0 regional sweep.
Verboven garnered a sweep over Brevard foes, first winning 8-0 in doubles action before beating Rachel Stanford in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in singles play. Thursday saw a 6-4, 6-3 win at singles against Caroline Harpaintner, following a close 9-8 victory at doubles. To close out the week, the senior took an 8-3 win at doubles and then beat Allenca Rolim 6-1, 6-2.
