Rockhurst University’s Joey Deas (Kansas City, Mo.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior guard led the Hawks to an 83-75 win over 18th-ranked Central Missouri on December 8 at RU’s Mason-Halpin Field House.
 
Deas tallied a game-high 24 points, including 12 points in the final 3 minutes and 27 seconds of the game to secure the win.
 
He finished 6-for-11 (.545) from the field, including a 2-for-4 (.500) effort from behind the three-point line, and was 10-for-10 (1.000) from the free throw line. In addition, Deas dished out four assists and had two rebounds.
 
On the year, Deas is leading the Hawks in scoring (18.4 ppg), assists (4.0 apg), three-point field goals made (17) and free throw percentage (.816). He ranks fifth in the league in scoring and sixth in three-point field goals made this season.
 
Rockhurst (4-3, 1-1) has won four of its last five games, concluding a five-game homestand with a 4-1 mark. The Hawks travel to Missouri Western tonight before hosting St. Mary (Kan.) on Tuesday.
 
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Jason Genova, Missouri-St. Louis’ Paul Paradoski, SIU Edwardsville’s John Edmison, Southern Indiana’s Norman Plummer and UW-Parkside’s LaVontay Fenderson.
