University of Southern Indiana senior Joel Stern has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of men's tennis, the Conference announced Tuesday.

Over three matches, Stern sealed victories for USI against Carson-Newman and Limestone, earning the fifth point in both instances with his singles' victories. Against King and Limestone, Stern outscored his opponents 24 games to five, allowing an opponent to take more than one game in only one of those four sets.

In doubles play, the senior was able to pick up two convincing 8-3 wins to bookend the weekend. Of the three doubles matches, Stern had only played with one of his partners prior to the weekend, and that was on only one other occasion with Anthony Van Rompay. Overall, Stern picked up more wins during the weekend than any other USI player.

This is the Mjoelby, Sweden, native's first career weekly honor, and he is the first Screaming Eagle chosen since Jack Joyce won April 7, 2015.
