Rockhurst University junior Emma Schelble has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of women's tennis, the Conference announced Tuesday.
Schelble was 4-0 last week, winning twice at doubles and twice at singles, all in the No. 1 slot. She started the week with an 8-6 win over Nebraska-Kearney's duo before beating Yuxiu Sun 6-0, 6-3 in singles on Friday. Two days later, the junior took an 8-2 doubles win with partner Tamara Santos over McKendree's Janelle Fung and Kelcie Comley. Later in the match, Schelble swept Comley in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
This is the Omaha, Neb., native's first career weekly honor, and she is the first Hawk chosen since Maureen Rielley was selected April 10, 2012.
