Lewis University senior third baseman Kurt Becker and McKendree Universty sophomore right-handed pitcher Nick Yung have been respectively named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Monday.

Yung turned in the best performance of his McKendree career in the Bearcats' 1-0 win in the final game of a four-game GLVC series at Illinois Springfield on Saturday. Nick allowed just two hits over seven innings, striking out a career-high 12 batters in the effort. He picked up the win as the Bearcats scratched out the only run of the contest in the top of the eighth inning. The win improved Yung to 1-1 on the season with a 5.40 earned run average.

This is the Smithton, Illinois native's first career weekly honor, and it is the first for a Bearcat pitcher as well.  The only prior league accolade earned by a McKendree standout was on March 18, 2013 when Tony Kossina was named GLVC Player of the Week.
