William Jewell College junior hurdler Blake Alexander and Saint Joseph's College sophomore jumper Phil Thompson have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced Thursday by the Conference office.
Thompson won the triple jump at the Gene and Rose Edmonds Invitational, held this past Saturday on the Pumas' campus. His jump of 15.37 meters (50'-5.25") is a school-, meet- and facility record and is currently ranked fourth-best in Division II, and it met NCAA provisional qualifying standards as well. He also won the long jump with a mark of 6.85 meters (22'-5.75").
The Dolton, Illinois, native garners his first weekly honor of the outdoor season, and is the first Puma to be recognized by the league since Kaleb Thompson on May 3, 2011.
