University of Southern Indiana senior distance runner Johnnie Guy and Lewis University sophomore decathlete Bryce Holesinger have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Holesinger won the decathlon at the EIU Big Blue Classic this past Thursday and Friday with a score of 6,888, which broke the meet record set by Lewis’ Billy Stadele in 2005.  His mark also broke a 20-year old school record and now ranks first in the GLVC this year and fifth nationally.  Holesinger claimed an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the javelin during the decathlon as well.  His throw of 59.14 meters is currently ranked first in the conference and 25th in Division II.

The Fulton, Illinois native garners his first weekly honor, and is the first Flyer field athlete to be recognized by the league since Scott Barnas on April 20, 2010.
