Quincy University junior first baseman David Jacob and Lewis University junior left-handed pitcher Alex Shake have been respectively named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Monday.

Jacob led Quincy back atop the GLVC West Division standings with three straight wins in a four-game series at Missouri-St. Louis last week.  The Hawks boasted a high-powered offense that netted 40 runs in the series that was paced by Jacob with a .667 (12-18) batting average, 11 runs batted in and six runs scored.  The Springfield, Illinois native had multiple hits in each of his four games, including at least one for extra bases, and scored and drove in a run at least once in each contest, He amassed three home runs and three doubles and netted 24 total bases while striking out just once in four games.  His best effort came Sunday when in the first game he helped the Hawks score 10 unanswered runs to win 11-6.  Jacob tied the game in the sixth with a solo home run to right center. He later provided the go-ahead two-RBI single in the seventh inning to finish the comeback, and then followed with a 5-for-5 effort in game four with a homer, a double, and three RBI.

Jacob, who registered a 1.333 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .684, was named the GLVC PNC Player of the Week earlier this season on March 7. It is the fourth time a Quincy student-athlete has garnered the award this season, and the second time Jacob and Ryan Snyder have gone back-to-back as GLVC PNC Player of the Week, as Snyder was honored for the second time last Monday.
