Quincy University junior first baseman David Jacob and University of Missouri-St. Louis senior pitcher Austin Simokaitis have been respectively named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Monday.
Jacob was seeing the ball well for Quincy this past weekend in a 3-1 series win at Bellarmine. The Springfield, Illinois native was 9-for-14 (.643) on the weekend, notching three total RBI while crossing the plate once in each of his four multi-hit games. Two of the nine hits resulted in extra baggers as he posted a double and a home run while accumulating an on-base percentage of .706 and a slugging percentage of .929. Jacob struck out once all weekend and finished with 31 putouts, one assist, and no errors defensively.
This is Jacob's second PNC GLVC Player of the Week award, having first been honored on March 23, 2015. Coupled with Ryan Snyder's accolade last week, the honor marks the second straight week a Quincy standout has been recognized by the league.
