University of Indianapolis sophomore outfielder Jessie Noone and University of Illinois Springfield freshman pitcher Jaycee Craver were named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, in the sport of softball, the Conference office announced Monday.
Noone had a stellar week at the plate, compiling team highs in batting average (.684), on-base percentage (.714) and slugging percentage (1.105). She also drove in 12 runs on 13 hits, including five doubles, while striking out only once in 21 plate appearances. In addition, the sophomore played errorless defense in centerfield.
The highlight came in Sunday's first game versus No. 8 Missouri-St. Louis. With her team down 2-0 and facing DII's all-time leader in strikeouts, Hannah Perryman, Noone delivered the game-winning hit with a bases-loaded double in the sixth, plating all three runs in the Hounds' eventual 3-2 win. In game 2, she was the only Greyhound with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a double and single.
Earlier in the week, Noone destroyed non-conference foe Urbana pitching with a 5-for-7 performance and three extra-base hits in the doubleheader versus the Blue Knights. She started the week with a two-run homer in the first inning of game one, good for her fourth dinger of the year. She also added two walks and a stolen base on the day.
The centerfielder continued her hot streak at Maryville, going 5-for-6 at the plate in two games. She drove in one of the Hounds' two runs in game one with an RBI single in the third before adding an RBI double in the game-two win.
The Elwood, Ind., native earns her first career weekly selection and is the third Hound honored this season as Natalie Lalich was picked February 29 and Erika Goodwin was the Feb. 22 choice.
