Maryville University senior outfielder Mitch Carriger and University of Wisconsin-Parkside sophomore left-handed pitcher Tyler Jandron have been respectively named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Monday.

Carriger hit .579 with three home runs, scored eight times and recorded seven RBIs to lead the Saints to a 4-1 record, including a four-game sweep of William Jewell. He had a .636 on-base percentage and posted a 1.158 slugging mark on 11-of-19 hitting with five extra base hits.  In a nonconference game against Indianapolis, Carriger doubled and had two hits in five at-bats. Against William Jewell, he had a season-high four hits, including a three-run homer, to help the Saints win the opener. He scored three runs and drove in three runs with a stolen base. In the second game Saturday, Carriger launched a two-run homer in a 9-8 win. In Sunday's first game, the Highland, Illinois native singled, walked twice and scored twice. In the WJC finale, he recorded a critical two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Saints overcome a 4-1 deficit and rally for a 5-4 win. Carriger went 3-for-4 on the day, scored twice and also doubled. He handled 13 chances in centerfield and did not commit an error over the five games.

Carriger's honor is the first-ever GLVC Player of the Week award for Maryville.
