Northern Kentucky University’s Angela Healy (Ft. Thomas, Ky.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Healy, a senior center for the Norse, averaged a double-double in three wins last week.
The Norse picked up wins over Fayetteville State and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian in the Travel America Classic on Monday and Tuesday. Healy earned All-Tournament honors at the event and capped the week by leading NKU to a 78-60 win at Wayne State on Thursday.
Healy posted 18 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots in NKU’s 93-80 win over Fayetteville State on Monday. She was 7-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line.
In the 100-50 victory over St. Andrew’s, Healy tallied 18 points, 11 rebounds, four blocked shots, four assists and three steals. She finished 8-for-12 from the field.
Healy posted 21 points and 12 rebounds in NKU’s key in-region victory at Wayne State. She also collected four assists, a block and steal in the win.
For the week, Healy averaged 19 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and three blocked shots per game while shooting 66.7 percent from the field. She was also 13-for-14 (.929) from the free-throw line.
Healy is averaging 17.9 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game this season. She currently ranks fifth in the GLVC in scoring and second in both rebounding and blocks.
NKU (8-1, 1-1), ranked 11th in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Coaches Poll, has won six straight games and will return to action on Dec. 29 at Grand Valley State.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Kentucky Wesleyan LaTasha Henry, SIU Edwardsville’s Amber Shelton, Southern Indiana’s Jasmine Baines, UIndy’s Karla Mast and UW-Parkside’s Kayla Ming.
