Drury University sophomore third baseman Kaelie Smith and University of Indianapolis senior catcher Jenny Thompson were named Great Lakes Valley Conference co-Players of the Week, while Indianapolis senior Morgan Foley was named GLVC Pitcher of the Week in the sport of softball, the Conference office announced Monday.
?Thompson led a UIndy offense that scored 24 runs on the weekend. She had team-high totals in batting average (.500), slugging percentage (1.000), hits (6), runs (5) and homers (2). She started the weekend 2-for-2 in the opener versus regionally ranked Truman, hitting a solo home run in the sixth while also amassing a single, a sac bunt and a stolen base. She had two hits in each game versus Quincy Sunday, launching her seventh dinger of the season in game one before compiling two singles, two runs and a steal in the capper.
Defensively, the catcher twice threw out the GLVC’s leading base stealer in Truman’s Christa Reisinger, accounting for one-third of her total times caught stealing on the season. She then caught a no-hitter versus Quincy Sunday.
The Greencastle, Ind., native earns her first career weekly selection and is the second Hound in a row honored as Jessie Noone was last week’s choice.
