University of Southern Indiana freshman James Hardiman has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of men’s tennis, the Conference announced Tuesday.

Hardiman earned four wins this weekend over some of the top competition USI has seen on this year’s schedule, including two team wins over GLVC foes on the road.

The freshman defeated two No. 3 singles players ranked regionally in the top 20. On Friday, he began with a 6-2, 7-5 win over reigning GLVC Player of the Week and No. 16 Andre Norasith before turning around on Saturday against No. 19 Indianapolis to defeat Midwest No. 7, Luke Hubert. Against Hubert, he dropped the first set 4-6 but rebounded to take the second frame easily at 6-1 before winning the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-4).

In doubles competition, Hardiman teamed with Aaron Barris for two more wins to push their tandem record to 13-0 this season, including an 8-3 win to start at Lewis and 8-5 at UIndy.

This is the Blackwell Bristol, United Kingdom, native’s first career weekly honor, and he is the second Eagle selected this season as Joel Stern was the March 8 winner.
